NSC has developed significant Oracle DB Migration expertise for Oracle Install, Migration ( between platforms ) as part of a system application upgrade/migration or as a separate work package which deals with the Oracle DB migration.
Typical Client Project: Upgrade Oracle 11.2 > 12.1 ( 12.2 ) Oracle Solaris 10
Current Infra-structure
Oracle Solaris 10 1/13
s10s_u11wos_24a SPARC
Solaris 5.10 Generic_150400-24 sparc
Oracle DB 11g release 2
Oracle client 11.2 (32 bit)
SUNCluster 3.3u2
Target :
– Dataguard Active
– Quantity : 20 servers
NSC strongly suggesting to use 12.2
when possible and not 12.1
12.2 is certified with Solaris 10 on Sparc
Preparation Steps
– Analyze current environment (primary and standby).
Check active sessions, redo IO, archives, FRA, dataguard parameters, backups
— Install the 12.2 software in both primary and standby servers.
Will need 30GB of free space to do that, either in a directory or in a specific file system
for the Oracle 12c home. Prepare TNS names, sqlnet, linstener (no downtime)
— Run the preupgrade checks on primary (no downtime)
— Fix whatever can be fixed online (no downtime)
Upgrade Steps
– Day of the upgrade – estimated 2- 4 hours of time-out for primary
– stop log shipping lame redo apply on standby
– produce a guaranteed restore point in FRA of primary( space will be
demanded there if not enough). This will be a failback net
– tide the factual upgrade
– run the postupgrade fixups that will be reported from ourpre-checks
Post Upgrade Steps
– Give the database (primary) for Sanity by the customer
— If all well, we will change the compatibility to 12.2.0.1 to both primary
and standby and we will restart the log shipping and redo apply on standby
(and drop the restore point)
— Standby will be automatically upgraded to 12.2.01 with the redo apply
— Active dataguard will be enable again
— Configure proper RMAN backups for 12c
